Safari Regions
The Okavango Delta
Fed by the Okavango River, also known as ‘the river that never finds the sea’, the Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world. It is truly a sight to behold when the floodwaters ‘magically’ arrive from the Angolan highlands before sinking into the dry Kalahari Desert sands. Here it creates a lush and waterlogged haven with crystal clear meandering waterways and lagoons, islands and floodplains. Various safari experiences can be enjoyed in the Okavango region, from helicopter flights over the channels, game drives, walking safaris, birding and fishing to canoe safaris in the traditional mekoro.
Chobe National Park
Situated in Botswana’s far northeast, Chobe National Park is a fantastic introduction to Africa and its wildlife, especially when it comes to the large herds of elephants that frequent the area. Flanked in the north by the mighty Chobe River, the area is famously known for its houseboat safaris, where, from the comfort of the houseboat’s deck, you can watch as the elephant herds frolic and play in the river. Divided into four ecologically distinct areas, consisting of river, scrub, plains, and marshes, the area is deemed to be some of the easiest wildlife viewing areas in Africa, especially in the dry season when large herds of grazers and browsers attract lions, African wild dog, and other prominent predators. Due to its proximity to bordering Zimbabwe, a visit to Victoria Falls is an easy addition to this incredible safari experience.
Linyanti
The Linyanti is a spectacular private concession located in northern Botswana, where the famous game-rich Savuti Channel and productive Linyanti River supports huge aggregations of elephants during the drier winter season. The Linyanti comprises riverine forests, marsh, and Mopane Woodland that support equally spectacular herds of antelope and buffalo, whose presence in return attracts lion, African Wild Dog, and cheetah, making this a sought after safari destination.
Tuli Block
For the adventure-seeking safari enthusiast, the Tuli Block is a must-visit destination. It is situated in eastern Botswana along the Limpopo River, where it shares unfenced borders between Zimbabwe and South Africa - creating the Mapungubwe Transfrontier Conservation Area. It comprises several private reserves or concessions that form one of the biggest private game reserves in Southern Africa. With the majority of Botswana being a relatively flat country, the large rock formations and gorges of the Tuli Block create a wildlife haven where numerous fauna and flora are protected. The region is best known as being a refuge to the largest elephant population on a private reserve on the African continent. The area also offers a range of adventure safari activities, ranging from wilderness walks to big game mountain bike and horseback safaris.
