Safari Regions
The Serengeti
If you have ever dreamt of Africa, you most likely dreamt of the Serengeti. The home of the Great Migration, and most likely one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth. With millions of wildebeest and zebra being the main focal point, it is an amazing sight not to be missed. This in turn attracts the attention of lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas, setting the scene for incredible dramatic encounters as species fight for survival.
Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thought to be the world’s largest inactive, intact volcanic caldera that isn’t filled with water. This incredibly fertile crater is home to an estimated 25 000 large animals, including elephants, lions, and black rhinos, and it offers a sanctuary to the non-migratory animals. Because of its abundance of animals, this is a sought-after luxury Safari experience requested by many visitors.
Nyerere National Park
Few reserves in Africa still conjure up the nostalgia of classical African safaris. Situated in South-Eastern Tanzania, Nyerere National Park (Formerly Selous) is Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary, covering 30 893 square kilometers. The reserve was originally named after the famous explorer and big game hunter, Frederick Courtney Selous. The region is dominated by the great Rufiji River, the largest river in Tanzania, which forms the backdrop for incredible Safari experiences, as during the dry season, the water attracts elephants, hippos, cheetah, buffalo, lions, and African wild dogs.
Ruaha National Park
Taking its name from the word Ruvaha, meaning ‘river’ in the local Hehe language, Ruaha, is Tanzania’s second-largest conservation area, covering more than 20 000 square kilometers. It is this river, combined with the Miombo woodlands, Modonya gorge, and Matopotopo swamps that makes this an incredibly game-rich park, especially during the hot dry season, when the remaining pools of water attract large herds of elephant, buffalo, lion, and African wild dog.
As this area is only accessible by air, Ruaha is considered to be one of Tanzania’s best-kept safari secrets, promising uncrowded and unhurried game viewing experiences.
